Hi! My name is Em Rowe, and I'm happy to be a new addition to the teaching community at 好莱污影院. I recently moved to Wilmington, DE with my partner, and we couldn't be happier. I love the diversity found in city life (albeit a smaller city), as well as all the things to do. We're big fans of farmers' markets, museums, music, hiking, biking, and exploring in general. I'm originally from Central PA (right outside Harrisburg) and have a great deal of Pennsylvania pride. I'm looking forward to getting back to my PA roots by connecting to the 好莱污影院 Pennocks Bridge community!

Academic Biography
I'm currently a PhD student in Sociology at the University of Delaware, where I also earned my MA in Sociology. I earned my BA at the University of Pittsburgh, where I majored in Sociology and Communication & Rhetoric, with a certificate in Women's & Gender Studies. In general, my research interests include sexuality, gender, LGBTQ social movements, and health.
Theoretical Approach, Experience, and Temperament
I'm extremely passionate about teaching and mentoring in the fields of sociology and gender studies. As a first generation college student myself, I think it's important to recognize and address the breadth of student experiences in academic settings. I take teaching and mentoring very seriously, and will always make time for students' needs. One of the things that I'm most proud to have started at UD is a Collaborative Research Network between undergraduate and graduate Sociology and Criminal Justice students, which gives students at various educational levels a chance to connect, work on research projects together, and form a mentoring bond. In Spring 2016 I taught my first solo class at the University of Delaware: Social Problems. This was an amazing experience and showed me how much fun teaching can be. I've also taught the lab sections of UD's Soc Research Methods class. Outside of Sociology, I've co-instructed a course called Passport to the Liberal Arts, which is a one credit first-year-experience class that helps Liberal Arts students explore future possibilities within their chosen fields. My TA experiences range from courses like Women & Violence to Black Middle Class, Race Gender & Poverty, Film & Society, and Sociology of Marriage. I've really enjoyed this breadth of teaching experience, as I feel that I've learned a great deal about these topics myself.
Scholarly Interests
